WHAT IS A PLUG-IN HYBRID?

Plug-in hybrid cars, also known as PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles), are a cross between a combustion engine and an electric battery. This means you have the option to drive fully electric on shorter trips in to the city, or use the petrol or diesel engine for longer journeys. As the name suggests, you have to plug your car in to a source of electricity in order to use the electric drive, but if you run out of range you can simply switch to the combustion engine and recharge when it’s next convenient for you. Another noticeable difference in plug-in hybrid cars is the responsiveness - the electric motor boosts the combustion engine when you accelerate for a more refined drive.

PLUG-IN HYBRID DRIVING MODES

You can achieve totally different driving dynamics in your Plug-in hybrid car by using the different DYNAMIC SELECT driving modes.

For example, HYBRID is the default mode which prioritises the use of the electric motor and then, if additional power is required or the battery runs out, it will utilise the combustion engine.

Another example is E-CHARGE / BATTERY LEVEL which maintains the state of charge in your battery for when you need it, for example if the last part of your journey is in a city.

PRE-ENTRY CLIMATE CONTROL

Pre-entry Climate Control allows you to set the temperature in your car whilst it’s charging. This helps to save electric range when you set off by using the electricity from the charge point. Whether you want to cool down or heat up your car, you can configure this using your Mercedes me app or via the MBUX head unit in the car. You can even set specific time and dates for even more convenience.
